GOES: RECOVERING A NEIGHBORHOOD

During the first half of the twentieth century, the people of Montevideo were proud of the Goes neighborhood, an economic and cultural epicenter. The current restoration project includes renovating the old market and sixteen city blocks, which became run down and crime-ridden in the 1990’s.

Goes: la recuperación de un barrio

El proyecto de recuperación del barrio Goes, que durante la primera mitad del siglo XX enorgullecía a los montevideanos, pues era un epicentro económico y cultural, incluye la remodelación del antiguo mercado y de las dieciséis manzanas adyacentes al barrio, que en los años 90 se había tugurizado y convertido en guarida de delincuentes.
